Junior Kate Peters of Lake Oswego High in Oregon won the girls 5-kilometer championship race at the Eastbay Cross Country West Regionals at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Peters clocked 17:19 to become the first Oregon female athlete since Mariel Ettinger of La Grande High in 1997 to secure the regional title. She also became the first Oregon female qualifier and joined Kaiya Robertson of Franklin High in producing two Oregon female national finalists since 1993.
