ARCADIA, Calif. – Mia Brahe-Pedersen not only took on the challenges of competing against two elite sprint fields at the 55th Arcadia Invitational, but the junior standout also wanted the opportunity to measure herself against the legacies of a trio of the greatest female athletes in American track and field history.

Brahe-Pedersen completed her first four-race schedule of the season Saturday for Lake Oswego High, with the Oregon prep star producing wind-legal national leaders in both the invitational 100-meter dash and 200 meters, in addition to achieving one meet record and nearly taking down another at Arcadia High.

And just in case that wasn’t enough competition, Brahe-Pedersen also ran legs on Lake Oswego’s invitational 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Brahe-Pedersen clocked 11.17 seconds to eclipse the 1998 meet record of 11.32 by former Chino High standout Angela Williams, then elevated to No. 2 in Arcadia history with her 23.01 performance in the 200, surpassing the 2002 mark of 23.08 by L.A. Baptist graduate Allyson Felix, but just missing Marion Jones’ 1991 mark of 22.87 during her career at Rio Mesa High.

Brahe-Pedersen, who was runner-up in the invitational races last year at Arcadia, followed Autumn Wilson of St. Dominic Savio from Texas in sweeping both sprint events Saturday.

Amare Harlan of Fremont High in Utah was second in the 100 in 11.551 ahead of Reign Redmond from Carson High in California in 11.560. Madison Whyte from Heritage High in Virginia clocked 23.48 to place runner-up in the 200, with Harlan taking third in 24.06.

Brahe-Pedersen, who combined to run 34.18 in the 100 and 200, surpassed the excellence of Jones (11.38/22.87=34.25), Felix (11.54/23.08=34.62) and Williams (11.32/23.48=34.80) to achieve the best sprint double in meet history.

Lake Oswego also took third in the invitational 4x400 relay in 3:50.27 and earned eighth in the invitational 4x100 in 47.82, with Brahe-Pedersen teaming with Riley Ha, Marina Turpen and Josie Donelson in both races.

Carson won the invitational 4x100 in 45.51, with Christina Gray, TaAhjah Fann, Kaitlyn Williams and Redmond elevating to the No. 4 lineup in meet history.

Cardinal Ritter College Prep of Missouri clocked 45.89 and Long Beach Poly took third in 46.95.

Sadie Engelhardt, a sophomore at Ventura High in California, lowered her own national-leading performance in the mile to 4:36.26, securing back-to-back victories at Arcadia after winning last season in 4:35.16.

Engelhardt became the first female athlete to win the invitational mile in consecutive years since Amy-Eloise Markovc (formerly Amy Eloise-Neale) of Glacier Peak High in Washington in 2011-12.

Sophomore Jane Hedengren of Timpview High in Utah secured second in 4:41.08 and Landen LeBlond, a junior at Millennium High in Arizona, took third in 4:44.60.

Mackenize Browne highlighted an impressive two-day schedule for JW North High in California, winning the invitational 800 meters in a national-leading 2:03.07, surging late to edge last year’s winner, Ali Ince from Normal Community in Illinois in 2:03.17.

Madison Shults of Niwot High in Colorado clocked 2:04.28 to take third and Hannah Riggins from Del Norte High in California, who helped the Nighthawks win the invitational 4x800 relay Friday, finished fourth in 2:06.69.

Browne also contributed to JW North winning the invitational 4x400 relay in 3:49.36, teaming with Breija Stredic, Leilani Brandon and Dominique Abbott to hold off California rival Calabasas in 3:49.87.

Saira Prince of Williams Field High not only swept the invitational 100-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles, but she eclipsed Arizona state records in both events in a little more than an hour.

Prince clocked 13.58 in the 100 hurdles, taking down the 2014 record of 13.59 established by Hamilton’s Ashlee Moore.

She followed with a 41.24 performance in the 300 hurdles, lowering the 2019 standard of 41.38 achieved by Ma’Kayla Dickerson of Betty H. Fairfax.

Prince became the first female athlete to sweep both invitational hurdles since Tiana Bonds of Las Vegas Centennial High in 2014.

Gabriella Cunningham of Grandview High in Colorado finished second in both events in 13.69 and 42.36.

Joelle Trepagnier, a sophomore at Culver City High in California, won the girls invitational 400 in 53.56 and La Jolla junior Payton Smith placed second in 54.12. Trepagnier also won the open section of the 200 in 24.52.
